Putting Drill 107. Technique: The Practice Station

0

In order to develop, test, and maintain great putting technique, you need to have great feedback.

Just putting the ball in the hole isn’t enough – if you have poor technique then your subconscious will correct for you and you’ll still make putts, but your consistency will be poor – you’re waging a constant internal battle between your conscious perceptions and reality that won’t hold up under pressure or over time.

This drill is about training your senses so that you learn to set up and perform on the greens perfectly every time, it’s about ingraining the correct feelings and being able to immediately sense when something is wrong.

To do this, you will learn how to build a practice station that you can use at the beginning of every practice session.  This station must do the following:

  • Provide immediate feedback on the quality of your setup position;
  • Confirm that your alignment and aim are perfect, while training your visual system;
  • Confirm that you are striking the ball out of the middle of the putter face; and
  • Show that you are starting the ball on exactly the right line.

With just a few sessions using this practice station, in conjunction with the other drills in this section, you will develop a world-class putting technique, and your confidence on the greens will soar…
